New Zealand is home of the fascinating and unique Māori culture. Legend has it that the Mãori travelled from Polynesia to the South Island in their traditional waka – a wooden canoe – in the 13th century. Known today as tangata whenua, or “the people of the land”, Māori over time developed a distinctive language and culture.
When you think of New Zealand, you probably think of the rugby team, the All Blacks, the team’s silver fern symbol and the fearsome haka they perform before games. These symbols and rituals are of Mãori origin: the “unfolding fern” is the koru, and the haka is a war chant.
COME AND VISIT A MARAE, EAT HANGI AND IMMERSE YOURSELF IN A CULTURE YOU HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCE BEFORE.
